Monday Music ft. Tom Waits

This Tom Wait’s song “Ol 55” is a perfect slow moody blues song to get through another Monday grind.

“And now the sun’s coming up, I’m riding with Lady Luck, Freeway cars and trucks, Stars beginning to fade, And I lead the parade”

Another word for these guys is creepy…I’ve seen them twice and quickly walked the other way.

Saw these guys in the subway a couple weeks ago. Ingenious.

Jason Quick: best beat writer in the NBA

Jason Quick is the beat reporter for the Trailblazers and always manages to find the unique story and personalities that make up an NBA team tick.  His ongoing “Behind The Locker Room Door” segment might be the best in the league.  In the most recent edition he points out the freakish talent of Nic Batum:

The thing is, this kid is going to be a star. Think about it. At 19, he’s starting on a playoff team, and is already one of the team’s best defenders. And his offense is getting better and better. People talk of the Blazers foundation being Brandon Roy, LaMarcus Aldridge and Greg Oden. I think Batum will prove to be just as valuable. Hope he stays the same humble kid.

Read the whole article for some great anecdotes on how the team entertains itself on the flight and an attempted rookie hazing of Greg Oden.

Dwight Jaynes remembers his dad

“Sports keep kids out of trouble,” he used to say to anyone who would listen. “It’s good for them, mentally and physically.” I swear, when my brother and I were playing ball, he enjoyed our games and our teammates every bit as much as we did.”

- Portland sport’s writer Dwight Jaynes in a great post remembering his late father, Bill Jaynes.

Take a sec and read the full post.  It’s a testament to what it means to be a good man and more importantly a great dad.
